The Flowers Riviera is the part of Ligurian coast stretching from Cervo until the French border, nearby the city of Ventimiglia.
Already at the end of the 19th Century it was named by English Tourists "Doorway to western Italy".
A balance between the luxuriant green of the hinterland and the blue of the sea. San Bartolomeo al Mare is certainly one of the best equipped seaside resorts of the coast. Created by the union of the two small medieval villages of San Bartolomeo and Rovere, the village is very busy during the summer months thanks to the comfortable tourist facilities.
The town owes its fame to the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Rovere, where during summer the International Contest of Vocal and Instrumental Execution for Young Talents takes place. The façade and the bell tower of the parish Church give to the village mystical awesomeness.
A little bit more to the inland you will find the ancient village of Poiolo, with the small church of Sant'Anna, leaning out on the church square shaded by palms.
From here the whole valley, olive-trees, oil mills and small villages, like Pairola and Chiappa and in the Steria Valley, Riva Faraldi, Villa Faraldi known for its summer Theatre Festival and Cervo with its International Chamber music Festival.
Cervo
A characteristic medieval village, situated between capo Cervo and the mouth of the homonymous stream, dominated by the façade of the splendidBaroque Church. It belonged to the Marquises of Clavesana, who sold the Castle to Genoa in 1204. Numerous buildings of the 17th and 18th Century became prestigious residences today, such as Palazzo della Meria, splendid town hall.
Diano Marina
Surrounded by hills covered of olive-trees is an important seaside resort, situated among cape Berta and the mouth of the stream St. Pietro. In the Middle Ages it represented the outlet of Diano Marina, the town at its back. Nowadays it is a known commercial town, with numerous shops, boutique and hotels, as well as wide equipped beaches. It has also a lively nightlife, thanks to Pubs and Discos in the area of the waterfront.
